Rusty!  (Intake date:  June, 2008)

Meet out new friend Rusty!  Rusty would like you to know that he is sweet and affectionate and he likes pretty much anyone that he meets, including children it would seem.

Rusty is an approximately one-year old neutered male Husky cross who, as you can see in the pictures, has the cutest little ear flip that makes him really stand out in a crowd.

Rusty would also like you to know that so far he has been primarily raised as an outdoor dog and so he is now adjusting to life inside of our shelter.  He is smart, however, and so we are sure that he will not take too much time to adjust to a lifestyle that includes being allowed to be part of the 'pack' even if you have four-legs.  What he means is, he want to go wherever you go whenever possible.

If you can provide this sweet, sensitive, and affectionate boy with a loving, stable home and a permanent family to love him, then feel free to come by for a visit.

Burma!  (Intake date:  July, 2008)

This sweet little baby would like you to know that she would like to be taken seriously, even though she is only about 10 weeks old.  Little Burma is a female Heeler cross who was found along the Grande Cache Highway and is wondering now, if there is a permanent, experienced, and fantastic family to love her.

Burma is energetic and playful and she will need lots of daily exercise and attention.  As well, you should know that Burma is a going concern, complete with sleepless nights, and need for positive potty-training, regular socialization opportunities, and of course lots of daily exercise and playtime.  Then wait until the adult teeth come around six months of age!  Then she will likely want to chew everything she can get her teeth on and she will of course require even more daily exercise and playtime to keep her happy, content, and ready for a long nap!

This cutie will also need ongoing training, particularly on leash...as she has already displayed some dissatisfaction towards other dogs and things with wheels while on leash.  This being the case, we are looking for a family with previous dog experience, and one who an train Burma in a positive manner so that she can reach her potential as a very intelligent and compatible canine.  Since she is a puppy, she will also require several more sets of vaccinations over the course of her life, and of course she is  sold with spay contract only.  Now you must also remember that although she is tiny now, she will likely grow to be around 40 lbs. and a nice medium size. Burma is going to need lots of room to play and run in a safely enclosed area.  She will also need quality puppy food for at least another year to ensure she grows big and strong.  You should also know that we do not provide 'outdoor' dogs to families.  She will need to be an important part of her human pack and must be included in daily activities and have an indoor bed.

If you have previous and proven dog experience and you can commit to another 15 years to see to it that Burma has a happy and fulfilled doggie life, come down to meet her!

Chewbacca (Chewie for short)!  (Intake date:  July, 2008)

Smart, spunky, cute and a nice medium size!  What else could a loving new family want? Beautiful Chewbacca (or 'Chewie' for short...as we like to call him) is a wonderful three-year old mixed-breed sweetie with the most unique  markings on  coat.  Chewie asked us to tell you that he would really like to find a loving new family to call his own .....VERY SOON!

Chewbacca is a well-mannered boy who loves to play and chase after rubber squeaky balls in a safely enclosed area.  Although does not jump up as a rule, sometimes he leaps into the air right around you in a sweet display of enthusiasm....so be ready to  be loved!!!  This sweet boy also already knows the basic obedience commands and he loves to be scratched behind the ears.

If your heart and home are ready to commit to being a positive, loving, stable, and active new family and you can provide him with lots of daily exercise, quality nutrition, an indoor bed, and a happy stable environment then come by for a visit.

Lucky!  (Intake date:  July, 2008)

Meet sweetie Lucky our new female Springer Spaniel cross who is a happy-go-lucky girl and just as sweet as can be.

Lucky is energetic, friendly, and playful, and she seems to like everyone that she meets.  She loves to run and play in a safely fenced area and she has good off-leash potential for a family who likes to hike, swim, or just enjoy the outdoors.

Lucky is a nice medium size, she is low to the ground as well which should make her a perfect companion for almost any family.

If your heart and home are ready for a new, loving companion who is affectionate and intelligent, and you can provide her with a stable, active, and loving home, please come by to meet her.

In date: July, 2008

Stormy!  (Intake date:  July, 2008)

Big and handsome, a little older, and settled, Stormy (whose real name we are trying to find out) is a neutered male Akita cross who is easy going, friendly, and cute as can be.

We named Stormy in honor of one of our favorite boarding dogs who as since passed on, and like the original, we are hoping to find this Stormy a loving family to call his own.  This big sweetie is approximately 6 - 7 years old, well-mannered, and likes everyone he  meets,  although he is somewhat aloof and independent, and although he is friendly, he is not the kind of dog to cling all over you and shower you with kisses.

Stormy is excellent on leash and he is cooperative and easy-going.  His coat needs some attention as he is thick, and double-coated and sheds off in the summer. Given that his coat is so heavy, Stormy would be a suitable companion to take on winter excursions and he would be able to be outside in the reasonably colder temperatures for a while without becoming too uncomfortable. Stormy also likes to go for vehicle rides and will lay down and make himself at home on your back seat while you drive.

If your family is looking for a mature companion who already knows how to behave, and who loves will be great company for the rest of his many years come by to meet him.

A little cute pie doesn't cross our doorstep very often, so don't hesitate...if you can provide a loving, stable, child free, and peaceful environment for the rest of his many years, and of course not to mention an indoor bed and lots of daily exercise, love and affection, then our new little guy Toby would love to meet you!

Lucky loves to play in a safely enclosed area, and she can chase a ball or just run for the joy of it.  She already knows the basic obedience commands and she is well-mannered and easy going.

Dewy has been adopted! Sandy is currently out with a loving foster family!  (intake date October, 2007)
Meet our two friends, Cute and Even Cuter, or Sweet and Even Sweeter!  You decide who is who!

These two new darlings are approximately one-year old, neutered male Coon Hounds who are gentle and sensitive, and who are now ready to go to their new families.

Sandy (right) and Dewy are very shy in new situations and have not had much opportunity for social interaction before coming to our shelter.  They were very scared at first, but during the last few weeks they have made noticeable improvements and they love to play and give kisses to the walkers that they see everyday and to their handlers at the shelter.

Coon hounds are a gentle and loving breed who instinctively follow their nose.  This being the case, they are not suited to life off-leash unless in a safely enclosed area.  When their noses opens, their ears close which can make training a challenge.  They are also very short-coated and so cannot be left outside in cold temperatures  This being the case, these big goofy boys will need and active and experienced family with a safely fenced yard and an indoor/outdoor lifestyle.  They will need lots of training by a patient, loving, and gentle leader who is willing to spend lots of time with them on a daily basis.

If your heart and home are ready and you can provide a stable, quiet and loving environment, come by to meet this handsome duo!  They have come a long way in their short time with us and they are now ready to become important new members of loving, permanent homes.

Meet Max!

On our waiting list (currently living outside of our shelter but looking for a new home):

- Two nine-year old Chesapeake/ Lab crosses. The female is spayed, but the male is intact, however the current owner will pay for the cost of the neuter.  Great family pets! (August 11/07)

- A Four-year old neutered male Rottweiler/Lab cross.  Both parents were pure bred.  He has his shots and is leash and house-trained.  He is good with other dogs and people.  He can be a little on the protective side and needs an experienced owner. (Dec. 10/07)

- A three-year old spayed female  Pure bred Jack Russel Terrier.  She is spayed, has her shots up to day, is house-trained, and unfortunately has a human that has developed allergies. (Feb. 20/08).

- A one-year old spayed female Heeler cross who is good with kids and all kinds of people.  She has spent a lot of time outdoors and is still perfecting her house training. (March 10/08)

- A seven-year old neutered male boxer cross who is good with kids and cats and a 9-year old Husky cross who is a little shy but good with other dogs.  Both dogs have been raised as outdoor dogs, and would love a safe and loving acreage home to call their own. (April 29/08).

- A handsome, pure bred, neutered male German Shepherd named Max who is four-years old and looking for a new loving family.  Max would like you to know that he is a good dog and that he has been raised by a single female and children over 12.  Max is well mannered, his shots are up to date and he is currently living in Grande Cache. His family must move into accommodations that do not allow for pets, and so he would love to find a new family who can give him lots of daily love and affection and a good run at least three times per week. (Pictures on the left). (May 27/08)

- An eighteen month old male Lab cross who needs his shots and still needs to be neutered.  He has been raised to this point as an outdoor dog and so will need some help with house-training for a new family who will allow him to be part of the pack indoors too.  He is good with older kids (a little to rambunctious for little kids) and he is friendly and healthy. (July 1/08)

- An eighteen month old unaltered female Husky/German Shepherd who needs to be spayed and have her vaccinations done.  She has to date been raised as an outdoor dog but would love to be trained to be part of a loving pack inside too.  She is good with older kids (a little too energetic for little kids) and friendly (July 1/08).

- A nine-month old male Newfoundland dog whose needs to be neutered, but whose shots are up to date.  He is good with people, kids, and other dogs. He has been raised outside to this point, but everyone who knows the breed knows that they are very sensitive and pack-oriented, and so his new family should be one who will take the time to train him in all aspects, including house-training.  He is 70 lbs. so far with a long-way to grow.  Anyone with dog experience and who knows the breed knows that this is great opportunity to adopt a potentially amazing new family companion. (July 4/08).

- Two eighteen month old active and energetic sweeties who have been raised outdoors to this point), need to be spayed/ neutered, and could use more training. They are affectionate by nature, are best suited to families with older children, and would make great new additions to loving homes.  (More details coming soon!)

- A one and a half year old Boxer/Lab cross who is already spayed, needs her shots brought up to date, and is truly a lovely dog.  This sweet girl loves everyone, including other dogs, is very energetic, and loves to play with older children.  She needs more training to reach her full potential, and she likes to have a good chew on her toys and yummy dog treats.  (07/10/08)

This big beautiful girl is a three-year old, pure bred, spayed female Malamute who is looking for a new family to call her very own.  This sweet girl is bouncy and energetic and LOVES to swim.  She is good with children and she wants to be included in daily family activities.  Be warned...Northern breeds have a natural tendency to dig and this sweetie is no exception.  She will do so to have a cool place to lay, or if she gets excessively bored....so shelter, shade, a kiddie pool and lots of daily exercise are a must. She has been primarily an outdoor dog, but she would really like a family with a securely fenced yard and one who will allow her to have an indoor life with them as well.  If you are active, loving, and playful yourself and you can provide this big (95 lb.)  beautiful girl with a permanent, loving home...call us for more information.

Cooper was out on adoption trial and has since been lost.  He was last seen in St. Albert.  If you have any information, please contact us ASAP! If cute, sweet, a little bit shy and cautious describe a canine friend that you could love then perhaps, this sweet boy could be the one for you!

Our new friend Cooper is an approximately 8-month old pure bred Coon Hound who is very shy around some new people, particularly men, but is absolutely as sweet as can be once he has had a chance to get to know you.

Cooper is neutered and ready to play with his favorite toys (squeaky toys) at your house if you are a gentle, kind, and patient kind of family.  Cooper is a nice size at about 50 lbs., but once he has been adopted and had a chance to flourish, we expect him to weigh in around 65-75 lbs.,

If your family is quiet, patient and gentle and you love dogs of all kinds, be sure to come by and meet our new friends, Cooper.

Sweet Stryder has been adopted! (Intake date March, 2008)

Beautiful, athletic, affectionate, and gentle! This young boy has it all!  Meet Stryder our one-year old pure bred male Coon Hound.

Stryder is brother to our two friends Dewy and Sandy above and like them, he has not had an easy start to life. Stryder, however, has had the benefit of a family lifestyle for the last few months, and is therefore, ready to move in with a new family who will love him for the rest of his many years and who will be as committed to him as he is to them.

Stryder knows how to sit, sit pretty, shake a paw, and lay down, and when he is playing in a safely enclosed area, he also listens quite well to his name, too.  Coon hounds are scent hounds and are not well-suited to a life off-leash as their ears close when their nose opens.  They are also not suited to an outdoor life as they have a very short coat.  This being the case, Stryder (and Dewy and Sandy for that matter) are looking for loving homes with big yards, complete with families with an active lifestyle who will provide them with lots of daily, safe exercise, quality nutrition, and an indoor bed, along with lots of love! If your family can help, please come by for a visit!

PUPPIES!  All these babies have been adopted! (Intake date:  July, 2008)

Meet Turner, Hooch and the rest of the crew!  There are five beautiful babies in all.  These little eight-week old sweeties are ready for the real world with new, loving families.

These little darlings are Lab/Shepherd crosses who are just as cute and sweet as can be.  Now, the important part...don't let their little fuzzy exteriors fool you!  These babies are each a going concern, complete with sleepless nights, and need for positive potty-training, regular socialization opportunities, and of course lots of daily exercise and playtime.  Then wait until the adult teeth come around six months of age!  Then it will be chew everything they can get their teeth on and they will of course require even more daily exercise and playtime to keep them happy, content, and ready for a long nap!

These cuties will also need ongoing training, several more sets of vaccinations over the course of their lives, and of course they are sold with spay/neuter contracts only.  Now you must also remember that they won't be small for long.  We expect them to be large dogs when they are fully grown and they will need lots of room to play and run in a safely enclosed area.  They will also need quality puppy food for at least their first year to ensure they grow big and strong and we also do not provide 'outdoor' dogs to families.  These babies will need to be an important part of their human pack and must be included in daily activities and have an indoor bed.

So, if you are prepared for the fifteen year commitment that it takes to raise a puppy, and are completely committed to the well-being and healthy, happy life of your new four-legged family member for the rest of his/her many years, then come on by to meet our new puppy crew and find the match that was meant for you!

Preston has been adopted!  (Intake date:  July, 2008)

Be ready for one of the most intelligent doggies you will ever meet! Preston is an absolutely lovely Border Collie/Husky cross who is talkative and playful, and wonderfully smart!!

Preston is relatively easy-going, and he seems to like people, and thrives on one-on-one attention.  He likes to chase a ball, have a good munch on a doggie cracker, and he is a wonderful little companion.

Preston is approximately eight to ten months old, and he already knows how to sit, shake a paw, lay down, and come.  Being that he is a cute little combination of two of the most intelligent breeds of dog, his new family must be absolutely prepared to offer him ongoing training, tonnes of mental stimulation and plenty of daily exercise to keep him happy and content.

Lola is out on adoption trial!! (Intake date:  June, 2008)

How cute, how cute, how cute am I?????  This gorgeous girl is an approximately eight-month old female Black Lab who is just as sweet and rambunctious as a puppy can be!  Little Lola is about 45 lbs. right now, and will likely fill out around 65 once she is full grown.

She has a beautiful soft, shiny coat and she ABSOLUTELY LOVES to play fetch with her new favorite toy... the green squeaky bone!  She goes and goes and doesn't look back until she bounds happily back to you with the toy in her mouth and she is ready to go again!  Once she gets tuckered out, Lola loves to good munch on a yummy treat and she likes to just flake out beside the water bowl.

If your family is looking for a gorgeous and loving little companion, and you can provide an indoor bed, a ride inside the vehicle when going places, ongoing training, plenty of daily exercise and activity, a plethora of chew toys for her puppy instincts, and most of all tonnes of love and affection everyday, then be sure to come by to meet her!  Lola is ready to be the best thing that has happened to your family in a long tine!

Bandit is out on adoption trial!  (Intake date:  July, 2008)

Bandit, Bandit, pudding pie!  This big boy is one of the most lovey-dovey sweetie-pies you will ever have the pleasure of meeting!!!

Our big boy Bandit is one of those dogs that you simply cannot believe someone gave up.  He is affection, attentive, loving, well-mannered, and simply everything a family could want in a great big teddy bear of a companion.

Bandit is a gorgeous king-sized boy at about 115 lbs. and he has a soft, plush coat that would make him a great winter hiking companion.  Bandit loves everyone he meets, is good around other dogs, loves to cuddle, and he loves to have his tummy rubbed.  Although Bandit is well-suited to outdoor pursuits based on his size and generous coat, his loving personality and definite desire to be with his humans makes him unsuitable as an exclusively outdoor dog.  He would like you to know that he wants to be allowed inside the house to keep you company on hot, cold, and rainy days...and in fact, all days in between!! Sleeping in the house is where it's at, and he would also like you to know that he will need a safely fenced area with shelter outdoors for when he needs to be alone outside.  Tying him up is definitely  NOT appropriate. He would also like you to know that he rides well in vehicles and so putting him in the back of a truck is also completely inappropriate.

If your family can provide this truly special, loving, and wonderful mass of love with a permanent, active, and stable home, come by to meet our big lover boy!

Mister is out on adoption trial!  (Intake date:  July, 2008)

Meet our newest little guy...Mister!  This sweetheart is an approximately eighteen-month old mixed breed boy with just the cutest, most unique appearance. He is so unique that it is difficult to put a breed label on him...maybe a little American Eskimo, maybe a little Corgi, it's hard to be sure so we will call him an "All Canadian".

Little Mister looks almost like a little lamb and he is just as gentle and shy as one too.  Mister was a little shy at first, but he is beginning to trust the staff and walkers more and more and he enjoys his daily adventures in the park with gentle human companions. He is also good buddies with our new friend Samantha the Border Collie cross featured below.  Mister is low to the ground and is just a little guy with a big heart.  He loves treats and he also likes children, and he is great on leash.

If your heart and home can provide a loving, stable, and permanent environment, with lots of daily love and affection for this shy little guy, then come by to meet our new friend, Mister.

Bella has been returned to her original family!  (Intake date:  July, 2008)

This cute little sweetie is Bella, the spayed female Pug cross.

If sweet, happy, spunky and oh so cute are on your list of attributes for your perfect new canine friend, then maybe Bella is the one to complete your family.

Bella is friendly, compact, and energetic and she loves to romp and play in a safely enclosed area.  She is good on leash and she loves to go and explore on her daily adventures.

We believe she is a 'Pugle' which means that she is crossed with a Beagle which makes her muzzle less compressed and breathing easier, so she doesn't grunt and snort like pure bred pugs sometimes do.

She loves people of all kinds and she loves to go for a ride in vehicles.  This is the first Pug we have seen at our shelter in many years, so if Pugs are 'your kind of dog' and you want to help with a rescue, and of course you can provide sweet Bella with an amazing doggie lifetyle for the rest of her many years, then don't hesitate and come by to meet her.
