Dogs for adoption or fostering

In date:Sept., 2008

Zyra would like you to know that she has come SUCH a long way...."Please, where or where is my family?" says she.  (Intake date:  Sept., 2008)

Meet our resident sweetie-pie Zyra!  This gorgeous girl is an approximately 13-month old Shepherd/Hound cross who used to be afraid of new people and things, but since joining our adoptable family a few months ago, she has come SUCH a long way.

Zyra is now getting better on leash, and she is now also friendly with new people.  She loves to romp and play in a safely enclosed area and she LOVES to fetch a rubber squeaky ball.

Zyra is still learning not to jump up as her previous life did not allow her any training, but she is very intelligent and food-motivated which is making her progress that much quicker. In fact now, she rarely raises a paw, and is far more interested in having her belly scratched.

This sweet girl is best suited to a household in which the children, if any, are 12 or older, although she likes the company of other young, friendly dogs, and so a companion to another dog is a possibility.

If you can offer this sweet young girl plenty of daily exercise, love and tonnes of affection, as well as an indoor bed and ongoing training for the rest of her many years, then be sure to come by for a visit.

Quentin!  (Intake date: May, 2009)

Meet Quentin (code for lovable)! This big boy is a neutered male Shepherd/Husky cross who is black and white and lovable all over.

He is friendly with most people right off the bat...but makes a little shy with some.  He would like you to know that he is pretty good on-leash, particularly with a harness, and he loves to walk with his friend Zyra.  He pulls a little, but is generally good, and he responds well to positive reinforcement.

Quentin is a natural alert companion, and this being the case would make an excellent friend for a female human or someone who loves alone.  He would alert you to know that visitors have arrived, and would be very loyal to his human companion.  He is sweet and loves to be scratched behind the ears, and he also greets you with all four feet on the ground.

If you are looking for a true, four-legged friend, then be sure to come by to meet our intelligent friend, Quentin.

Cooper was out on adoption trial and has since been lost.  He was last seen in St. Albert.  If you have any information, please contact us ASAP! If cute, sweet, a little bit shy and cautious describe a canine friend that you could love then perhaps, this sweet boy could be the one for you!

Our new friend Cooper is an approximately 8-month old pure bred Coon Hound who is very shy around some new people, particularly men, but is absolutely as sweet as can be once he has had a chance to get to know you.

Cooper is neutered and ready to play with his favorite toys (squeaky toys) at your house if you are a gentle, kind, and patient kind of family.  Cooper is a nice size at about 50 lbs., but once he has been adopted and had a chance to flourish, we expect him to weigh in around 65-75 lbs.,

If your family is quiet, patient and gentle and you love dogs of all kinds, be sure to come by and meet our new friends, Cooper.

Barkley has been adopted! (Intake date:  Dec., 2008)

Cute, sweet, happy, friendly, compact, and perfect in every way, this little guy would really love to spend te rest of his senior years in a loving home and preferably being scratched behind the ears by someone who loves him.

Barkley is a neutered, happy-go-lucky male Shih-tzu cross who is just as lovable as a little guy can be.  He loves to go for his daily adventures, rides fantastically in vehicles, is well-socialized, and fantastic on leash.

There is nothing more to be said than hurry up and come down and meet him if you are looking for a well-mannered companion with whom the work has already been done...You just get to enjoy him for the rest of his little canine life.

Yerik has been adopted! (Intake date:  Feb., 2009)

Just as handsome as can be - meet Yerik our newest male Husky cross who is quiet and reserved, but definitely loves to be 'loved up' by humans who care.

Yerik is affectionate and sweet...and not to mention fluffy!  He is easy-going and friendly, and seems to be adjusting well to his new surroundings.

Yerik would be much happier, however, if he were adjusting to his new life, with his new loving family to call his own for the rest of his many years.

If your family is looking for a new addition and you can provide a stable home with a safely fenced yard, and indoor bed, lots of daily exercise and quality nutrition, then come on by to meet this handsome boy.

In date: Dec., 2008

Lil'Red has been adopted! (Intake date:  Jan., 2008)

Energetic and sweet, spunky and smart. Meet Lil'Red, our newest Red Bone Coon Hound friend.

Lil'Red is a little shy at first...and can be a little unsure of herself in new surroundings.  She has come a long way already though, and she now enjoys her playtime each day in a safely enclosed area.  Do your breed research...and if your heart and home have a loving place for a rambunctious girl who will need to spend a lot of time inside in the colder months as her coat is very short, but you can provide lots of daily exercise and mental stimulation for her, then perhaps your family is the one that she has been waiting for.

Coon Hounds are scent hounds and so time off leash is not recommended until proper training and bonding has taken place, but in the mean time, long walks on leash with a patient human who will be patient when she is unsure of herself, combined with lots of playtime in a large, securely fenced backyard, and this sweet girl will have it made.

In date: Dec., 2008

Terry has been adopted! (Intake date:  Feb., 2009)

This big, friend, gorgeous boy is Terry the Airdale Terrier cross!   He is fluffy in a wirey kind of way and he is just as sweet as a big boy can be.  Terry is great on leash and off, and his new best buddy is Sheba (featured below).  Together they walk and play and enjoy the sunshine and hangout being just as cute as two doggies can be.

Terry is anxiously awaiting a new start with a new loving family to call his own.  He would like you to know that he is well-mannered, easy-going, and most of his training has already been done...so if you are looking for a settled and mature doggie who will likely transition nicely into his new surroundings, and you can provide lots of daily exercise, love, quality nutrition and an indoor bed, then come on by to meet him!

In date: March, 2009

Evony has been adopted!  (Intake date: March, 2009)

This gorgeous, special needs Great Dane is as 'great' as they come and fortunately for her, has already found a family made just for her!

In date: Dec., 2008

BO has been adopted! (Intake date:  Dec., 2008)

Big and strong, shiny and sweet!  This gorgeous boy is a two-year old, soon-to-be-neutered male Black Lab cross who is about as friendly as they come!

Big Bo is affectionate and playful, and he came to us with his house-mate and 'sister' Nuka featured below.  Having escaped from their yard and now unfortunately homeless, this pair of loving, happy sweethearts now needs a new, loving, and committed family to call their very own.

Adoptable as singles of course, but we always hold that hope that if a pair of dogs was raised together and both come our way, we would always love to see them re-homed together.

If your family is loving, stable, attentive, and committed to the well-being of their four-legged members and you can provide lots of daily exercise, an indoor bed, quality nutrition, ongoing training, and above all tonnes of TLC, then come by to meet our newest dynamic duo!

Tabatha has been adopted!  (Intake date: February, 2009)

This sweet little girl is four months old and has just met her new family!

In date: Oct., 2008

Squirt has been adopted!  (Intake date:  Oct., 2008)

Big, goofy, lovable and tonnes of affectionate fun!  Meet squirt who is brother to Zyra above (not to mention her favorite playmate)!  Lovable Squirt is just shy of one-year old and still not big enough for his skin!  He has the puppy-like quality that suggests that his loose skin is gonna get filled in before too long and when it does, there will be just that much more to love.

Squirt is friendly, playful, and now that he has grown, he is bordering on HUGE! Of course we mean that in the best possible way :)  Squirt is soooooo lovable and friendly with everyone he meets, he is happy, well-socialized, and adorable in every sense of the word.

Something you should know about Squirt is that he is so social that he would do best in a situation in which he can be part of a dynamic duo...he would loving nothing more than to be adopted to the same family as his sister Zyra, although a dual adoption is not for the faint of heart, or for anyone not prepared to go the extra mile to help their new family members with their transition.  But perhaps your family has a friendly dog who would love a big, goofy, bouncy playmate.  If left alone, Squirt gets a little lonely and so a safely enclosed area for him to be in if he has to be alone is a necessity.  Also, he is more agile than he looks and so his fencing will need to be high and very secure to keep him from exploring the outside world on his own.  As well, being that Squirt is part hound, he is not suited to acreage living as once his nose opens, his ears sometimes close...a dog lover will know exactly what that means.

If your family is looking for a bouncing, people-oriented lovable cutie boy who will likely be 125 lbs. by the time he fills out, and you can offer him a gentle hand, lots of daily exercise, playtime and affection, as well as in indoor bed, ongoing training and quality nutrition, come by to meet him.

Apollo has been adopted!  (Intake date: March., 2009)

Meet our bouncy little friend Apollo the happy-go-lucky Shepherd cross.  Apollo is two-years old, will soon be neutered, and is more than ready to say hello to his new, loving family on a daily basis.

Apollo is a natural guard dog and will bark to let you know that visitors have arrived.  While he will alert you, he is not aggressive whatsoever.  He is friendly with everyone he meets and is also good with other dogs.

Apollo is perky and energetic, and he loves to play fetch...although he doesn't really bring the ball back to you, rather fetches it and then runs around and plays with it. Too adorable!

If you can offer this happy young boy a stable, loving, and permanent home, then be sure to come by and meet him.

Is your heart big enough to provide a loving home for a special needs sweetheart? If so, read on...

Our precious friend Elly is a mature little shih-tzu cross, who since these photos were taken has gotten a cute hair cut and put on a little weight :)  Elly is visually impaired and is looking for a loving home that will provide her with a safe environment with lots of attention and affection, and with a human companion that will provide her with her daily eye-drops and take good care of her for the rest of her years.

If your heart is big and ready to adopt a new loving-member of your family then come on by to meet this adorable, special girl.

Breeze is home and happily adopted!  (Intake date: March., 2009)

This gorgeous Retriever/Collie was out on adoption trial and is currently missing in the Jasper area.

If you spot her, please call, 780-817-1075, and 780 865-2800, 780-865-1538.

Breeze is timid and shy, but a patient and gentle person (preferably a man as she responds better to men) should be able to entice her to safety with a tasty treat.

Thank you for your help in bringing her back safely.

Jasmine is out on adoption trial!  (Intake date: April, 2009)

Oh Boy!  If you are looking for a lovable new little family member, you have come to the right place.  Jasmine is yet another little girl who ended up at the pound and whose family did not come to get her.

So their loss could be your gain if you are looking for a sweet Cocker Spaniel who is spunky, cute, good on leash, friendly, well-mannered, and just plain old ready to get on with her life in a loving new home.

If you can provide a stable, attentive, and active home, with an indoor bed, and are looking for a family companion who wants to hang out with you no matter what you are up to, then come on by to meet her.

Sherman is out on adoption trial!  (Intake date: April, 2009)

This beautiful baby is Sherman.  This young sweetie was brought in to us and his original family has sadly not come to find him.  This being the case, he is now looking for a new stable and loving family to call his own.

For a young boy, he is already pretty good on leash as long as you keep on moving.  He gets along well with other dogs that we have walked him with, and he is sweet and affectionate.

Sherman would be best suited to a family with prior dog experience as he is strong-willed from time to time and has a mind of his own.  He responds well to gentle love and affection and loving guidance and a gentle, but firm leadership.

If your family can provide him with ongoing training, an indoor bed, quality nutrition, and lots of daily exercise, mental stimulation and playtime, come on down to take him for a walk and fall in love :)

In date: April, 2009

Lyca is out on adoption trial!  (Intake date: April, 2009)

Gorgeous, smart, affectionate, companionable and lots of fun!  If these qualities describe what you are seeking in a new canine companion, then our new friend Lyca may be the perfect new addition to your family.

Like most northern breed dogs, he loves the outdoors...does not like to be confined to a kennel...and just wants to get on with the enjoyment of life with a new, loving, stable and ACTIVE family.

Lyca would be well-suited to a family in which he gets to spend a lot of time outside, but in a safely (and highly) fenced area.  Huskies have a natural prey drive and so while he likes to be walked with a harness, off-leash walking should only be attempted after bonding and training time with his new human companion has been given ample time.   Lyca would also like a family who will allow him to be part of the family  by giving him time inside and an indoor bed.

If you can provide this beautiful boy with all the love that he can handle and a quality, active lifestyle for the rest of his many years, come on by to meet him.

Sonny

Cher

In date: April, 2009

Sonny and Cher are out on adoption trial!  (Intake date: April, 2009)

Sonny and Cher are the dynamic duo and another pair of sweeties who are trying to figure out what the heck they are doing 'lost' without anyone coming to find them and bring them home...

Once again, someone else's loss could be your greatest new addition to your family.  These two are good on leash, friendly with all the people they meet and well- mannered.  They love a good munch on a doggie cracker and a good chew on a nice treat, and they are affectionate, and as you can see, super cute!

If you have an active lifestyle, a securely fenced yard, time to spend with furry family members, and can provide an indoor bed, quality nutrition, daily exercise and playtime, and have a tonne of love in your heart, then come on by to meet Sonny and Cher.

In date: Sept., 2008

Tika is out on adoption trial!  (Intake date:  Sept., 2008)

Make was for our new little friend Tika the wonder-dog!  This little girl is a spayed female Jack Russel/Chihuahua cross  who cannot wait to find a new loving family to call her own.

This little girl is EXCELLENT on leash, , and she is also good with other friendly dogs.  She absolutely LOVES to go for her daily adventures on leash, and she also enjoys a good romp in a safely enclosed area.  Tika is just a little girl and so her size makes her suitable for almost any active and loving family. It should be noted, however, that our little Tika's new family should only have children over the age of 12 as the running and screaming of little ones puts her herding instincts into full-blast and she is much better suited to a more relaxed, mature environment.

Tika wants you to know that she is used to be being somewhat pampered and so she will require an indoor bed (or is willing to share yours), quality nutrition, and she she needs to be made part of daily family activities.  She is a little bit shy in new situations and with new people, and so a family with dog experience is preferred.  Once she has had the opportunity to warm-up and get to know you though, look-out...she is just as affectionate and sweet as a girl can be.  Her current favorite friend is Barkley (featured below) and together they are just as cute as a pair of sweeties can be.

If your heart and home are ready for a new little energetic addition, then be sure to come by to meet our new friend, Tika.

Java is out on adoption trial!  (Intake date: April, 2009)

If it's energy you are looking for, combined with spunk and sweet, playfulness, then maybe our new puppy friend Java could be the right new addition for your family.

Java is about four to five months old, soon to be spayed, and ready to become part of a new family.  Java is a going concern....like all puppies she is high energy, but this little girl is not for the faint of heart.  She is teething right now and so wants to get her teeth on everything in sight...including your fingers... so patience and prior doggie experience is a definite must.  She is very very intelligent and responds well to gentle but firm verbal correction.  She needs a lot of patience when being walked on leash too, although this could be remedied by a family with a large, securely fenced yard for her to burn around in and lots of toys for her to play with.  Our shelter currently has no off leash area available for our dogs to exercise in and so many are lacking the freedom and exercise that they require... Java is no exception.  Given a chance to burn her steam, (a tired puppy is a good puppy) and you will likely see the softer side of her in no time.

Lady is out on adoption trial!  (Intake date: March., 2009)

This little sweetie is Lady the mature and lovable mixed breed girl who came to us with Breeze, Evony, and Apollo and is now looking for a new family to call her own.

Lady is energetic and well mannered, and she is treat motivated and absolutely loves the snow. She rolls and romps and and fills her boots so to speak and just generally has a great time.

Lady is a nice compact size and she is well-mannered and friendly with everyone she meets.  She needs and indoor bed, lots of love, and daily walks with her new family and she even has good off-leash potential.

If your family is looking for a friend who would likely be a friend who makes an easy transition to a new life, then come on down to meet our sweet girl, Lady.

In date: March, 2009

Chase is out on adoption trial!  (Intake date: March., 2009)

This gorgeous little power house is Chase the Border Collie cross!  Chase is a young, spayed female girl who absolutely loves to run and play fetch.

She is energetic, spunky and easy-going and she already knows how to sit, shake, and has very good recall.  This sweet girl is affection, food-motivated, and very intelligent which should make her ongoing training a breeze.

Chase would like you to know though, that she is high-energy and requires an active family who will tend to her needs for lots of daily exercise and mental stimulation.  Dogs who are not properly exercised often become bored and sometimes destructive, so be sure to select a family member whose energy and dedication level match your own for the best results.

If your family has older children or is child free, and can provide Chase with an active and loving, permanent home, complete with an indoor bed then be sure to come by to meet her.

In date: May, 2009

Shoka is out on adoption trial!  (Intake date: May, 2009)

Meet our sweet prince, Shoka.  This gorgeous boy is a red-blonde Chow who was found wandering alone along highway 16 in Hinton a few weeks ago, and he would sure like to know why he is still waiting for his family to come and find him...

But their loss could be your family's gain if it proves that he is the right new lovable one for you!

Shoka is good on leash, good with most other dogs, and he is well-mannered and greets you with all four paws on the ground.  He loves to go for his daily adventures, is friendly, and he loves a good chomp on a doggie cookie.

He and his friend Lady (featured above), love to toodle along and catch all the great sniffs on a spring day.  If your family has a securely fenced yard, a nice, comfy indoor bed, and lots of toodle time to share with Shoka, then come on down to meet him.
